Overview of the 2006 IECC
The 2006 IECC provides marginal energy savings over previous editions of the code; however, it substantially streamlines the requirements to make it easier to comply. In particular, the number of climate zones was reduced from 19 to just 8. The updated climate zones have been maintained in subsequent versions of the code. In the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) determination on the 2006 IECC, it noted that while some changes would increase energy efficiency and others would decrease efficiency, overall adopting the new code would create a net gain.
