Overview of the 2009 IECC
The 2012 IECC is the most energy efficient model energy code available today. The Energy Efficient Codes Coalition released a study indicating that the residential portion of the 2012 IECC would achieve 30% savings over the 2006 version of the code. The U.S. Department of Energy’s Building Energy Codes Project agreed, estimating 30% savings for both the residential and commercial portions of the 2012 IECC. Some important improvements in the 2012 code include mandatory duct blaster and blower door testing, strengthened insulation and fenestration requirements, pipe insulation, and additional compliance menu options for commercial buildings.
The full text of the 2012 IECC is available from the ICC website. It is also available packaged with various other building codes.
